Institutional Effectiveness Mission and Purpose

The Institutional Effectiveness (IE) program at King University is one of demonstrating and documenting the extent to which the College fulfills its mission and achieves its goals as stated in the Strategic Plan.

 

The mission of Institutional Effectiveness at King University is to promote institutional quality through a comprehensive, institution-wide, data-driven continuous cycle of planning, implementation, assessment, and improvement. Toward that end, Institutional Effectiveness has three primary responsibilities:

 

  • Providing assistance and support in developing and overseeing processes designed to enhance the effectiveness of programs and services
  • Providing quality information and services to support planning, decision-making, and assessment at all organizational levels
  • Providing support to reaffirmation and accreditation efforts

 

Institutional Effectiveness at King University

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges definition of Institutional Effectiveness serves as the cornerstone of King University's IE program:

 

The institution identifies expected outcomes, assesses the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provides evidence of improvement based on analysis of the results in each of the following areas: educational programs (including student learning outcomes), administrative support services, educational support services, research within its educational mission, and community/public service within its educational mission. (Comprehensive Standard 3.3.1, The Principles of Accreditation, SACS Commission on Colleges - 2010 Edition).

 

The College's Institutional Effectiveness program seeks to continually improve educational experiences to enhance student learning and ultimately fulfill the College's mission. By clearly defining and measuring expected outcomes for student learning, these assessment results are used to improve educational programs, the core curriculum, and campus support services. The quality of educational programs are also evaluated through regular, systematic reviews and self-studies as part of Academic Program Review (APR) process.

 

Data-Driven Decision Making

Data from a variety of nationally-recognized and locally-developed assessment measurements are reviewed and used for improvement throughout every aspect of King University. These measures include the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, Noel-Levitz Adult Student Priorities Survey, the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE), IDEA Student Ratings of Instruction, ETS Major Field Tests, certification and licensure exams, portfolios and e-portfolios, capstone projects, course-embedded assignments and exams, employer and alumni satisfaction surveys, and focus groups.

 

Institutional Research at King

Institutional Effectiveness staff work in collaboration with Institutional Research to provide information and analysis to the college in support of research, planning, policy formation, reporting, and decision making. By also examining retention, progression, and graduation rates, these two areas continually review institution-wide assessment measures for the purpose of continual improvement.
